Family Coaching

After nearly three decades of working with Nebraska's abused and neglected children, we have come to the conclusion that we cannot build enough children's homes nor recruit enough foster families to care for the growing numbers of children placed in the foster care system.

Consequently, we must take our services into the homes of "at risk" families to educate and equip parents with skills that will keep their children from being placed in foster care. We also must train and prepare parents who currently have children in the foster care system to be effective parents who can provide safe homes for their children to return to.

A family coach will facilitate planning for the return of children to their birth families. Reunification will occur when established goals have been met and families are prepared to assure the safety and wellbeing of their children. The family coach will continue to meet with each family on a regular basis for up to three months after reunification and track the family progress for six months.

By decreasing the number of children who need to be removed from their homes and increasing the number returned to their homes, Christian Heritage will be able to improve the welfare of Nebraska's children.
